Prophecy was founded because the creators realized that the existing data transformation platforms were not suitable for modern AI and analytics projects. Data transformation has been the bottleneck to making more data accessible for many years, and some organizations have attempted to solve it by relying solely on coding. However, this approach created new challenges, particularly for data practitioners who couldn't easily work with the data themselves.

Prophecy University’s first on-demand course "Prophecy for Data Engineering: Low-code Data Transformation" is designed for students who are interested in speeding the creation of  data pipelines to deliver data products using a user-friendly drag-and-drop interface. The course has over 5 hours of material and covers the basics and advanced use cases of data engineering using Spark and Databricks.

During the course, students participate in building a data cloud data platform for a e-commerce company. This hands-on experience will help students apply their newly acquired knowledge in a real-world setting.

By completing the "Prophecy for Data Engineering" course, students will gain the foundational skills needed to work with data transformations and build data products on Spark and Databricks.

Developed by Experts for Everyone

The Prophecy for Data Engineering course was developed in a unique way. As a startup, we understand the importance of moving quickly and efficiently.  Training should be no different, especially in the fast changing data world. So we took a disruptive approach and decided to create the course with data professionals in the field. This included inviting Andreas Kretz, the Founder of the online academy Learn Data Engineering, to create the Spark and Databricks fundamentals course modules.

The main question is how can we create and update educational content quickly without compromising its quality? The solution lies in crowdsourcing and peer education. Instead of relying solely on a traditional top-down approach to education, we encouraged our subject matter experts to create content following a set standard. This allows for continuous development and a peer education process, where everyone contributes to a shared knowledge repository.

To ensure content quality, we implemented a peer review process. All the material goes through an evaluation by other experts to maintain its accuracy and integrity. This approach empowers everyone in our company to be both a teacher and a student, fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing. This sped the content creation process and enabled our data experts to directly share their knowledge with our students.

A New Education Approach

In my 20 years of experience working with data and distributed systems, I have created many education programs for both big tech companies and startups. These programs covered a wide range of technologies, from traditional MPP systems to Hadoop, Spark, and Kubernetes. Through my experience, I have come to realize that the way we build and deliver education needs to be modernized.

In the past, education programs were often developed over long periods of time and required significant resources. This was because traditional data technologies, such as Oracle, DB2, and Teradata, didn't change as frequently. Additionally, large enterprises were able to charge a high price for classes that lasted weeks and were taught by instructors on-site. However, this traditional model doesn't align well with today's technology landscape. It is outdated, expensive, and slow.

We need a new approach that is more agile, cost-effective, and responsive to the fast-paced nature of technology. This is especially true in the data field, where advancements happen rapidly. By modernizing the way we build and deliver education, we can ensure that learners have access to up-to-date and relevant knowledge without the constraints of a monolithic, expensive, and slow traditional model.
